Semester 1

Week 14

Apple Magic
W14P1

I started coding my visual compendium this week, but I did asked ChatGPT for the base of the scrolling and the six columns then I went ahead to start editing the padding, text images myself, it looks exactly like my sketch, I didn’t manage to take screenshot of how my website looked like at first.. I forgot but here’s my sketch I did on illustrator, exactly the same.

And when I was scrolling through each column I have this dissatisfaction when I was scrolling through each column it will stop at the end but I remember that excel rows and columns can be infinity and I wanted that feeling where my website felt like a loop so I added the infinity scroll for each column, what it does was basically just continue scrolling without an end and it felt much much satisfying because it doesn’t feel like a loop.

But I do feel like this sketch was a little too heavy looking because of the lines and the font.. Especially since my images felt light because of the gradient outlines, and the reason why I wanted to my website to feel like because I am afraid it will look too messy and all over the place since I already had this 6 grid going on and the grid lines separating each column, I never thought of removing the columns because I just didn’t wanted it, I guess I was so fixated on the idea that I wanted it to have the hint of how excel looks like.

I also started sketching my body of works as it is 2 weeks left to submission, here is my sketch—

How this sketch goes about is, the rectangles represent my tasks, and it is placed in a circle because as you scroll, it will turn in clockwise direction, and when hover on the image/rectangle, the image will go big

Well, I am still trying to figure out where I am going to place my description for each task and I did get feedback from Vikas, and Vikas said that it would be better that my visual compendium and my body of work look cohesive, well I got the hint already. He told me that but it has to look a little different and he said maybe changing the background colour but I am not going to do that because damn that is ugly, I know he is just saying for the sake for saying, sorry vikas but yes I think yellow and blue background is ugly for this website. Anyways, I decided to sketch a new sketch for my body of works,

I decided to do about the same as my visual compendium but instead of six columns, I did 3, separating how I played with my text for this semester, Text Flow, Text Wrap, and Interactive Text. And then from here I decided to removed the gradient header and footer because it just felt annoying to me so I went ahead to resketch my visual compendium again,

How the about goes like is when you click on the about, it has this light opacity and it just explains what my visual compendium holds. That text there is just a placeholder so yes. Also I changed the font because I felt like the previous was a little bit too heavy for my liking.

I guess I need to pick up the pace because next week is project week, and I still have a lot left to do. I plan to upload and finalize my visual compendium and body of work so I can focus on completing and refining my CPJ. There’s still quite a bit of work to do for the visual compendium, though. For example, I noticed that using Arial Narrow as the font gave it a very default look—it honestly felt like such a basic, standard choice for the website. But at least I recognized this, so I know there’s still room for improvement and changes. Next week, I plan to dive into my sketches, finalize the necessary components, and make sure everything comes together.

I didn’t manage to do much learning or experimenting for my project this week because I was swamped with my dissertation draft, designing, and coding my visual compendium. It’s been a lot to juggle, but I understand that even after this submission, the work isn’t really over for me. I don’t see the upcoming break as a real holiday because I still have plans to work on my portfolio. I want to be fully prepared by the time I graduate, so I’ll be ready to send my portfolio to companies I’m interested in working with.

Thinking ahead, I also want to continue experimenting with different mediums for this project, like exploring Webgazer. I feel like there’s so much more to discover and push myself toward, even beyond the requirements of this submission. While it’s stressful now, I know that these efforts will pay off in the long run. Balancing all these elements—my dissertation, project work, and portfolio—feels overwhelming, but it’s also motivating me to keep going and put my best work out there.
